David, Spring Creek Basin wild stallion, has been a favorite mustang of Karen to paint over and over in many different colors and sizes. David had escaped from Spring Creek Basin, and went into a ranch across the dirt road a few days before the Fall Roundup of 2007. THE BLM (Bureau of Land Management) chased him with a helicopter back into Spring Creek Basin HMA (Herd Management Area) in order to round him up the following day with the rest of the wild mustangs. The following day Karen watched while the BLM helicopter chased band after band of families of wild mustangs across miles of hot desert into a trap and captivity.
Karen saw David go rogue and turn to face the roaring helicopter bearing down on him. Again he turned, but this time he ran the opposite direction and escaped the metal force trying to push him towards the high iron fences. Karen cheered!! Dozens of other mustangs were not so lucky.
